• Set a goal - but make sure it's realistic.
• Get support - family, friends and your doctor are great sources of encouragement.
• Monitor your progress - use a weight-loss diary to track your success.
• Expect setbacks - there will be times when your weight loss rate may slow or you
'wander from your plan'. Forget about this temporary setback and move on.
• Reinforce/reward yourself - reinforce each small success. Be it a check mark on your
weight loss diary, or a tangible reward (non-food) for reaching a milestone, make sure
you congratulate yourself regularly.
• Take it one day at a time - forget about yesterday and don't worry about tomorrow.
Just concentrate on sticking to your plan today. But don't weigh yourself on a daily basis.
Weekly weigh-ins give you a much better idea of your positive progress.
