Head lice are small insects that live on our scalps and feed on our blood up to 6 times per day.  The signs that you or your child may have Head Lice include itchiness or scratching of the scalp. You may also see the white eggs (called Nits) stuck to the hair shaft close to the scalp.

There are a number of treatments that you can use and unfortunately there is resistance from some treatments for head lice or nits. Head lice or nits can sometimes be very difficult to treat and you may need to try a number of options before you get the result you want.

Once you have discovered head lice or nits you may need to treat the whole family and advise your school of the problem so that other parents can look out for and treat their children. Keep your children’s fingernails short to reduce the chance of breaking the skin when itching. Make sure everyone at home as their own hair brush.  Wash the bed linen frequently to remove any Nits they may hatch at a later date.
